Target intelligence / Profile preview

Pollen Allergen Bet v 1 (Bet v 1)

Target
Bet v 1
Molecular classification
Pathogenesis-related protein family PR-10, Allergen
01

Overview

Bet v 1 is the major allergen found in birch (Betula verrucosa) pollen, responsible for most cases of birch pollen allergy. It is a ~17 kDa protein belonging to the PR-10 family. Its structure features a hydrophobic cavity that binds various ligands, influencing its stability and immunogenicity. The iron-free form promotes Th2 lymphocyte responses, while the iron-bound form exhibits reduced Th2 skewing. Sensitization to Bet v 1 is a biomarker for birch pollen allergy, and immunotherapy targeting this allergen has shown efficacy.
