Overview

Serine/threonine-protein kinase PLK1 (PLK1) is a key regulatory enzyme that plays essential roles in cell cycle progression, particularly during mitosis. It is a master regulator of multiple processes during cell division, including centrosome maturation, spindle assembly, kinetochore function, chromosome segregation, and cytokinesis. PLK1 is highly expressed in many cancers, making it an attractive target for anticancer therapy. Several inhibitors are under clinical investigation.
