Target intelligence / Profile preview
Polo-like kinase 1 pseudogene represents a defunct genomic locus that shares high sequence similarity with the polo-like kinase 1 gene (PLK1), a key regulator of cell division. However, the pseudogene is rendered non-functional by mutations such as frame shifts or premature stop codons, and it does not encode a functional protein[1][3]. Pseudogenes commonly arise by duplication, retrotransposition, or disabling mutations in functional genes. Although some pseudogenes have been found to regulate their ancestral genes or participate in gene regulatory networks, the majority—including the PLK1 pseudogene—are not implicated in therapeutic applications and are not considered canonical molecular targets[1][3].
