Overview

Poly(C)-binding protein 1 antisense RNA 1 (PCBP1-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA transcribed in antisense direction relative to the adjacent PCBP1 gene. It physically interacts with the Poly(C)-binding protein 1, influencing the expression of PCBP1 and key downstream oncogenic pathways such as PRL-3-AKT and TRAF/NF-κB signaling. PCBP1-AS1 is often upregulated in cancer tissues, including hepatocellular carcinoma and vulvar squamous cell carcinoma, promoting cell proliferation, migration, and metastasis. Its regulatory mechanisms include direct RNA-protein interaction and modulation of gene transcription and post-transcriptional processing. PCBP1-AS1 is considered a promising biomarker and therapeutic target due to its role in cancer progression and prognosis. No approved drugs currently target PCBP1-AS1 directly, but experimental silencing or inhibition is under investigation, notably in the context of hepatocellular carcinoma.
