Target intelligence / Profile preview

Polyadenylate-binding nuclear protein 1 (PABPN1)

Target
PABPN1
Molecular classification
RNA-binding protein, Transcription factor
01

Overview

PABPN1 is an abundant nuclear protein that binds to the poly(A) tails of nascent mRNA molecules, playing a crucial role in polyadenylation, mRNA stability, and export. It is also involved in alternative polyadenylation and the regulation of long noncoding RNAs. Expansion mutations in the polyalanine tract of PABPN1 cause oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy (OPMD).
