Overview

Polyadenylate-binding protein cytoplasmic 3 (PABPC3) is an RNA-binding protein that specifically binds the poly(A) tail of mRNA and is thought to play a role in the cytoplasmic regulation of mRNA metabolism, including the stabilization of mRNA and initiation of translation[6][3][5]. PABPC3 is primarily expressed in testes, especially within spermatocytes and round spermatids, and is implicated in the control of mRNA translation during spermatogenesis[2]. Its expression levels are correlated with male infertility, particularly non-obstructive azoospermia, where decreased PABPC3 expression associates with more severe germ cell loss[2]. PABPC3 binds poly(A) sequences with lower affinity than its paralog PABPC1 and is not presently considered a classic therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor[3][6][5]. There are no known direct drug interactions, biomarker roles, or specific safety concerns related to targeting PABPC3 identified in current literature.
