Overview

Polyadenylate-binding protein-interacting protein 2B (PAIP2B) is a protein encoded by the PAIP2B gene in humans. PAIP2B functions primarily as a translational repressor by inhibiting the translation of capped and polyadenylated mRNAs; it achieves this by displacing the poly(A)-binding protein cytoplasmic 1 (PABPC1) from the poly(A) tail of mRNA. This, in effect, restricts PABP-mediated mRNA circularization and translation enhancement. PAIP2B is ubiquitously expressed in several human tissues (such as brain, liver, ovary, and others), and shares homology with PAIP2A, though it is slightly longer. Its physiological role is best characterized in early development, particularly in oocytes, while recent evidence implicates PAIP2B as a prognostic marker in pancreatic cancer due to its influence on cell proliferation, invasion, and tumor immune environment. PAIP2B also regulates the function of miRNAs, further linking it to disease progression in cancer. No direct drug interactions or safety concerns are described for PAIP2B.
