Polyamine-DNA interaction refers to the binding and association of polyamines (such as putrescine, spermidine, and spermine) with DNA. These interactions are primarily driven by electrostatic attraction, but there is also evidence for site- and structure-specific binding. Polyamines play a crucial role in modulating DNA structure and function, affecting processes like chromatin compaction, gene regulation, replication, transcription, translation, cell growth, and differentiation. The ability of polyamines to condense DNA is exploited for nonviral gene delivery systems.
