Polyamine uptake inhibitors (PTIs) are a class of compounds that block the import of polyamines into cells by targeting the polyamine transport system on the plasma membrane. This strategy is used primarily in cancer therapy to deplete intracellular polyamine pools, which are essential for tumor cell growth and proliferation. PTIs are often used in combination with polyamine biosynthesis inhibitors like DFMO to achieve sustained polyamine depletion and enhance anti-tumor efficacy.
