Polyclonal immunoglobulins recognizing Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and bacterial extract epitopes

Molecular classification

Overview

This target refers to the diverse population of antibodies, primarily of the IgE and IgG isotypes, that specifically bind to antigenic determinants (epitopes) derived from the house dust mite Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and various respiratory bacteria. In allergic individuals, the IgE component of these polyclonal immunoglobulins mediates the hypersensitivity response by triggering mast cell and basophil degranulation upon allergen exposure (Source: Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2014). Therapeutic strategies, such as allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT), aim to modulate this target by shifting the immune response from a Th2-dominated IgE production toward a Th1/Treg-dominated production of protective 'blocking' IgG antibodies (Source: Nature Reviews Immunology, 2006). These induced IgG antibodies compete with IgE for the same epitopes on the mite and bacterial antigens, thereby preventing the allergic cascade and reducing clinical symptoms. This target is particularly relevant in the management of allergic rhinitis and asthma, especially when these conditions are exacerbated by recurrent bacterial respiratory infections (Source: AdisInsight, 2023).
