Overview

Polyclonal mixture of physiological antigens refers to a complex set of low-molecular-weight peptides and ribonucleic acids, typically derived from dialyzable leukocyte extracts (DLE), commonly known as Transfer Factor. These molecules function as immunomodulators by transferring antigen-specific cell-mediated immunity from sensitized donors to recipients. They play a crucial role in the immune response by stimulating T-lymphocyte activation and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interferon-gamma and interleukin-2. In clinical practice, these mixtures are used to treat a variety of conditions, including viral infections (such as Herpes and HPV), primary and secondary immunodeficiencies, and as adjuvant therapy in certain cancers. Their mechanism involves enhancing the recipient's ability to recognize and respond to specific pathogens or malignant cells, thereby bridging the gap between innate and adaptive immunity. While generally considered safe, therapeutic challenges include the standardization of the mixture's composition and ensuring the absence of infectious agents in donor-derived products.
