Target intelligence / Profile preview
Polyhistidine triad protein D (PhtD) is a surface-exposed protein found in Streptococcus pneumoniae and other streptococci. It is characterized by multiple histidine-rich HxxHxH motifs. PhtD plays a crucial role in zinc homeostasis, immune evasion by interfering with complement deposition, and adherence to host cells. It is considered an important vaccine candidate against S. pneumoniae.
Not applicable; target for vaccine development.
