Overview

Polyhomeotic homolog 1 pseudogene 1, abbreviated as PHC1P1, is a pseudogene that corresponds to the polyhomeotic homolog 1 (PHC1) gene in humans[1]. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are non-functional; they usually arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and typically do not encode active proteins[1]. PHC1P1 itself does not produce a functional protein and plays no direct biological or therapeutic role. It should not be confused with the functional PHC1 protein, which is a constituent of the Polycomb group (PcG) repressive complex 1 (PRC1) and has roles in chromatin remodeling and gene repression, especially during development[3]. In summary, PHC1P1 is not a therapeutic target, receptor, or protein of therapeutic interest. It is possible that confusion between PHC1P1 and PHC1 could lead to misclassification in databases or target lists, but the pseudogene itself lacks the properties of a druggable or functional molecular target[1].
