Polymerase Basic Protein 2 Subunit (PB2)

Target
PB2
Molecular classification
Viral protein, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase subunit
01

Overview

PB2 is a subunit of the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase complex of influenza A virus. It is critical for transcription initiation by binding to the 5' cap structures of host pre-mRNAs, a process called "cap-snatching." PB2 also influences host adaptation, pathogenicity, and evasion of the innate immune response.

02

Mechanism of action

PB2 is a subunit of the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, which is essential for viral transcription and replication. Inhibiting its cap-binding or polymerase activity would disrupt the viral lifecycle.
