Polymorphonuclear Leukocytes (PMNs)

Target
PMNs
Molecular classification
Immune Cells, Leukocytes

Overview

Polymorphonuclear leukocytes are multi-lobed granulocytic white blood cells—primarily neutrophils but also eosinophils and basophils—that provide rapid innate immune responses through phagocytosis, enzymatic degradation of pathogens, mediation of inflammation, migration into tissues upon activation signals from infection/injury sites—and have emerging roles beyond classical pathogen clearance including modulation of adaptive immunity and disease pathogenesis.
