Overview

Polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 10 (GALNT10) is an enzyme that catalyzes the first step in the synthesis of mucin-type O-linked oligosaccharides by transferring N-acetyl-D-galactosamine from UDP-GalNAc to serine or threonine residues on polypeptide substrates[1][3][7]. This enzymatic activity is essential for the O-glycosylation of proteins, a critical post-translational modification that regulates protein stability, localization, and function[6][7]. GALNT10 has higher catalytic activity for certain glycosylated peptide substrates and is involved in various physiological processes, with disease associations that include cancer (such as roles in proliferation, metastasis, and chemoresistance in gastric cancer) and rare genetic disorders like isolated ectopia lentis[1][5][7]. GALNT10 belongs to the glycosyltransferase family and its dysfunction may contribute to disease pathogenesis through aberrant glycosylation[1][2][5].
