Target intelligence / Profile preview

Polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 14 (GALNT14)

Target
GALNT14
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Glycosyltransferase
01

Overview

Polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 14 is a Golgi-resident enzyme that catalyzes the first step in O-glycosylation by transferring N-acetyl-D-galactosamine (GalNAc) to serine or threonine residues on peptide substrates. It is a member of the polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase family and is especially active on mucin-derived peptides such as Muc2, Muc5AC, Muc7, and Muc13. Variants in the GALNT14 gene have been implicated in cancer progression and differential responses to chemotherapy, particularly in liver cancer.
