01

Overview

Polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 5 (GALNT5) is a membrane-bound glycosyltransferase enzyme located in the Golgi apparatus, where it catalyzes the initial step in the mucin-type O-glycosylation of proteins by transferring an N-acetyl-D-galactosamine residue to serine or threonine residues on protein substrates[2][5]. GALNT5 is crucial for the biosynthesis of O-linked oligosaccharides and is associated with the regulation of tumor cell proliferation, migration, invasion, ferroptosis suppression, and modulation of immune/inflammatory pathways in cancers such as pancreatic adenocarcinoma[1][2]. Increased expression of GALNT5 correlates with poor prognosis and may serve as a therapeutic target and biomarker in multiple tumor types[1].
