Target intelligence / Profile preview
Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are polyunsaturated fatty acids that humans and other animals require for normal physiological function but cannot synthesize endogenously. They must be obtained through the diet. There are two primary families of EFAs: Omega-3 (n−3) and Omega-6 (n−6) fatty acids. EFAs serve as precursors to bioactive lipid mediators, are integral components of cell membranes, and play critical roles in various bodily functions including heart health, cognitive function, and skin health. A balanced ratio between dietary intake of n‐6:n‐3 is considered important.
