Overview

POMZP3 is a human gene fragment that resulted from the fusion of DNA sequences originating from two different loci: two internal exons of the POM121 gene (which encodes an integral nuclear pore membrane protein) and four 3' exons from the ZP3 gene (which encodes a zona pellucida glycoprotein important in oocyte biology). The resulting pseudogene fragment does not encode a functional, native protein, as the predicted product lacks key localization and function motifs of its parent genes. The transcripts (and any translated products) are not implicated in disease biology, protein function, or therapeutic targeting, and do not have established roles as receptors, enzymes, or other canonical targets.
