POM121 transmembrane nucleoporin like 2 (POM121L2)

Molecular classification
Nuclear pore complex protein, Nucleoporin, Structural protein of nuclear envelope[5][7]

Overview

POM121 transmembrane nucleoporin like 2 is an integral membrane protein that is a predicted structural constituent of the nuclear pore complex (NPC) in humans[5][7]. It is part of the nucleoporin family and is involved in the formation or maintenance of the NPC, which regulates the bidirectional flow of macromolecules between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. POM121L2 is thought to participate in RNA export from the nucleus, protein import into the nucleus, and to bind nuclear localization sequences. It is a paralog of the POM121 protein, which has established functions in NPC assembly and stability, but specific functional or disease roles unique to POM121L2 have not been reported in the available literature[5][7]. There is no evidence that POM121L2 is a therapeutic target, nor are there approved drugs targeting it directly. Key features: - Encoded by the POM121L2 gene (HGNC: 13973, NCBI Gene: 94026)[5][7]. - Predicted to be structurally and functionally analogous to POM121, supporting nuclear pore function. - No current clinical or pharmaceutical targeting reported.
