The POM121 transmembrane nucleoporin-like 2 pseudogene (ENSG00000277227) is a non-protein-coding genomic sequence related to the POM121 family of nucleoporin genes, which encode transmembrane constituents of the nuclear pore complex essential for nucleocytoplasmic transport. The pseudogene is highly homologous to protein-coding family members but does not encode a functional product, is not known to have any direct biological function, and is not a drug target. Protein-coding paralogs such as POM121L2 are structural components of the nuclear pore complex, potentially involved in RNA export and protein import into nucleus, but such functions do not apply to the pseudogene.
