POM121 transmembrane nucleoporin-like 6, pseudogene (POM121L6P) is a nonfunctional copy of a gene homologous to the nucleoporin POM121 family. Pseudogenes like this one are unable to encode a functional protein or participate in normal biological processes. They are frequently the result of genomic duplication or retrotransposition events, and their DNA sequence resembles a functional protein-coding gene, but with disabling mutations that prevent protein expression. POM121L6P serves no known cellular or disease-related role and is not a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. It is referenced occasionally in genomic research for comparative or evolutionary purposes, but has no medical or pharmacological relevance
