A positron-emission tomography (PET) imaging enhancer is a radiolabeled compound (PET tracer or radiotracer) designed to improve the quality, sensitivity, or specificity of PET imaging. These agents target particular biological processes, tissues, or molecular markers in the body and enhance the resulting PET images by increasing signal at sites of interest. They do not have intrinsic biological activity beyond serving as markers for physiological processes.
PET imaging enhancers are radiolabeled compounds that emit positrons. Upon annihilation with electrons, they produce gamma photons detectable by PET scanners, allowing for visualization and quantification of biological processes.
