The posterior primary ramus of the thoracic spinal nerve is the posterior branch that arises from the thoracic spinal nerve shortly after it exits the intervertebral foramen. It carries both sensory and motor fibers and is responsible for innervating the deep muscles and skin of the back within its segmental region. Each thoracic spinal nerve gives rise to a posterior ramus, which supplies motor innervation to post-vertebral muscles and sensory innervation to the skin of the back. The posterior rami are not targets for drugs but are sometimes involved in clinical pain management interventions, such as nerve blocks for thoracic back pain[1][2][5][6].
