The postmeiotic segregation increased 2-like 3 pseudogene (PMS2L3) is a nonfunctional genomic DNA sequence homologous to functional PMS2 genes, but lacks the ability to encode a protein due to disruptive mutations. Pseudogenes such as PMS2L3 are regarded as genomic remnants and are not known to participate in protein-coding functions or to have roles in human disease as protein-coding targets. They also do not have established roles as drug targets, biomarkers, or in therapeutic safety[1][3][9]. This pseudogene is not to be confused with functional PMS2 genes, which play roles in DNA mismatch repair. PMS2L3 has sequence similarity to these functional genes but functionally is inert[1][3][9].
