Target intelligence / Profile preview

Potassium channel protein Kv1.5 subunit (Kv1.5)

Target
Kv1.5
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Potassium channel, Voltage-gated ion channel
01

Overview

Kv1.5 is a voltage-gated potassium channel subunit that forms homotetrameric or heterotetrameric channels in the cell membrane. It plays a crucial role in the repolarization of atrial action potentials and contributes to the ultrarapid delayed rectifier current (IKur) in the heart. Kv1.5 also regulates vascular tone in pulmonary arteries and influences insulin secretion in pancreatic beta cells. Mutations and dysregulation of Kv1.5 have been linked to atrial fibrillation, sudden cardiac death, and pulmonary hypertension.
