Overview

A potassium channel protein subunit is a membrane-spanning protein that assembles with other subunits to form a functional potassium (K⁺) channel. These channels are integral membrane proteins responsible for the selective passage of K⁺ ions across biological membranes, playing critical roles in regulating cell excitability, maintaining resting membrane potential, controlling cell volume, and mediating secretion of neurotransmitters and hormones.
