Overview

Potassium channel subfamily K member 2 (KCNK2), also known as TREK-1, is a two-pore-domain background potassium channel that helps maintain the resting membrane potential. It is involved in neuroprotection, modulation of anesthesia response, ischemia tolerance, pain perception modulation, and depression resistance mechanisms. The channel is activated by anionic lipids, certain anesthetics, membrane stretching, intracellular acidosis, and heat. Dysregulation has been associated with neurological disorders such as epilepsy.
