Potassium channel tetramerization domain-containing protein 18 (KCTD18) is a member of the KCTD protein family characterized by the presence of a BTB (Broad-Complex, Tramtrack, and Bric-a-brac)/POZ (Pox virus and Zinc finger) domain at the N-terminus[1][3][5]. This domain mediates protein-protein interactions, including homomeric or heteromeric assembly, and serves as an adaptor for Cullin3-based ubiquitin ligase complexes. While specific molecular and biological roles for KCTD18 remain largely uncharacterized, KCTD family members are known to participate in transcriptional repression, cytoskeletal regulation, and protein ubiquitination. KCTD18 does not directly function as a potassium channel or as a classical receptor, transporter, or enzyme; its main feature is structural similarity to potassium channel tetramerization domains and presence of the BTB/POZ motif, defining its molecular grouping. To date, there are no known drug interactions, biomarker applications, or disease-specific functions established for KCTD18 itself[1][2][3][5].
