Potassium excretion in renal tubules is the complex physiological process by which the kidneys regulate potassium (K⁺) levels in the body. It involves filtration, reabsorption, and secretion along different segments of the nephron, including the proximal convoluted tubule, the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, and the distal convoluted tubule and collecting duct. Key molecular components involved include the Na-K-ATPase, ROMK channels, Maxi-K channels, and ENaC. Regulation is primarily mediated by aldosterone and distal sodium delivery/flow rate.
