Potassium-transporting ATPase beta chain

Molecular classification
P-type cation transporting ATPase, Transmembrane protein
01

Overview

The potassium-transporting ATPase beta chain (ATP4B) is a subunit of the gastric H+/K+ ATPase, a P-type cation-transporting ATPase. This enzyme complex is essential for acid secretion in the stomach, exchanging intracellular hydrogen ions (H+) for extracellular potassium ions (K+). The beta subunit stabilizes and traffics the functional alpha-beta heterodimer to the plasma membrane. It is targeted by proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) used to treat acid-related gastrointestinal diseases.
