Potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily A member 3 (Kv1.3)

Target
Kv1.3
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Potassium channel, Voltage-gated potassium channel
01

Overview

Kv1.3 is a voltage-gated potassium channel belonging to the shaker-related subfamily of potassium channels. It is encoded by the KCNA3 gene in humans. Kv1.3 channels are integral membrane proteins that selectively permit K+ ions to flow out of cells in response to changes in membrane potential. Elevated expression or activity of Kv1.3 has been linked to several diseases and it has become an attractive drug target.

Mechanism of action

Channel gating involves movement of S4 helix upon depolarization leading to opening/closing via displacement at S4-S5 linker region. Cytoplasmic domains mediate assembly/regulation/inactivation via protein-protein interactions.
