Potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily C member 3 (KCNC3 or Kv3.3) is a protein that forms a voltage-gated potassium channel. This channel is crucial for the rapid repolarization of action potentials in fast-spiking neurons, especially in brain regions like the cerebellum. KCNC3 plays a significant role in regulating neuronal excitability, neurotransmitter release, and synaptic transmission. Mutations in KCNC3 are linked to spinocerebellar ataxia type 13 (SCA13), a neurodegenerative disorder affecting movement coordination. The channel is a tetramer, with each subunit containing six transmembrane domains.
