Target intelligence / Profile preview

Potassium Voltage-Gated Channel Subfamily Q Member 4 (KCNQ4)

Target
KCNQ4
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Potassium voltage-gated channel, Kv7/KQT family
01

Overview

KCNQ4 is a voltage-gated potassium channel essential for maintaining proper potassium ion concentrations within inner ear structures and enabling efficient conversion of sound waves into electrical nerve signals for hearing. It is expressed in sensory cells of the inner ear and along auditory pathways. Mutations in KCNQ4 are associated with nonsyndromic sensorineural deafness (DFNA2). It is a target for drugs aimed at treating epilepsy, neuropathic pain, or potentially certain forms of deafness.
