Overview

POTE ankyrin domain family member B (POTEB) belongs to a family of closely related genes with expression predominantly in reproductive tissues such as prostate, ovary, testis, and placenta. POTEB is a protein-coding gene characterized by multiple ankyrin repeat domains, which are typically involved in mediating protein–protein interactions. Its selective expression in reproductive tissues, and increased expression in some prostate cancers, points to a functional role in reproductive organ physiology and possibly in tumorigenesis. Due to its restricted normal tissue distribution and presence in some cancer types, POTEB and its family members have been proposed as potential diagnostic markers or immunotherapy targets, especially for prostate cancer. However, its precise molecular functions, interacting proteins, and mechanisms are incompletely characterized. POTEB is not considered a classical therapeutic target (such as a receptor or enzyme), and no drugs are currently known to specifically interact with it.
