Overview

POTE ankyrin domain family member B2 is a cytoplasmic human protein (544 amino acids, ~61.7 kDa) encoded by the POTEB2 gene on chromosome 15. Characterized by five ankyrin repeat domains, the protein likely mediates protein-protein interactions central to intracellular signaling. Highest expression is found in the prostate, ovary, and testis, with weak expression in certain brain and cancer tissues. Functionally, POTEB2 is suggested to play regulatory roles in cell growth and division. Loss of expression is associated with triple-negative breast cancer and may be a relevant feature in some cancers, but no drug targets or direct clinical applications are established to date. The POTEB2 gene is one of several paralogs in the POTE ankyrin domain-containing family, with both structural and expression similarities to other POTE genes. No high-confidence protein-protein interactions or pathway memberships have been conclusively published for POTEB2, though affinity-mass spectrometry hints at several candidate interacting partners (unpublished/low-confidence). The gene and protein are not known to be receptors, enzymes, ion channels, or transcription factors; their function is largely attributed to the evolutionarily conserved ankyrin repeat family domain's role in scaffolding and intracellular signaling.
