Overview

POTE ankyrin domain family member C (POTEC) is part of the primate-specific POTE gene family, characterized by N-terminal cysteine-rich regions, five to seven ankyrin repeats, coiled-coil domains for protein interaction, and association with the plasma membrane. POTEC is notably expressed in healthy prostate, ovary, and testis, and is upregulated in various cancers, making it a cancer/testis antigen. The POTE gene family has evolutionary significance, with members dispersed across several primate chromosomes and is considered potentially involved in cell membrane structure and apoptosis in cancer cells[1][7][8][10]. Currently, POTEC is not a classical drug target but is of rising interest as a biomarker and putative immunotherapy antigen.
