Overview

POTEF antisense RNA 1 (POTEF-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on chromosome 2q21.1, as annotated by the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee[5]. It is a natural antisense transcript to the POTEF gene, meaning it is transcribed from the DNA strand opposite the protein-coding POTEF (POTE ankyrin domain family member F) gene[1][5]. Like other antisense lncRNAs, POTEF-AS1 likely exerts its biological effects through mechanisms such as modulating the expression, stability, or post-transcriptional processing of its sense counterpart gene[3][6]. Although there are no published data specifically describing POTEF-AS1 as a direct therapeutic target or listing interacting drugs, related antisense lncRNAs are known to play context-dependent roles in cancer, including tumor progression or suppression, via interactions with transcription factors, epigenetic regulators, or RNA-binding proteins[3][6]. The specific biological and disease roles of POTEF-AS1 remain poorly characterized in the current literature.
