POU class 6 homeobox 1 (POU6F1) is a member of the POU family of homeobox transcription factors that enables sequence-specific DNA binding and primarily acts as a transcriptional repressor for RNA polymerase II-dependent transcription. It binds preferentially to a variant octamer motif (5'-ATGATAAT-3') and is primarily localized in the cell nucleus. POU6F1 regulates lineage-specific expression of genes and is implicated in developmental processes, with strong expression in neural tissues. While associated with certain diseases such as prostate rhabdomyosarcoma and glycosylphosphatidylinositol biosynthesis defects, it is not a common direct therapeutic target, and there are no known interacting drugs or biomarker roles reported in current resources.
