POU domain, class 3, transcription factor 2 (POU3F2, also known as BRN2 or N-Oct-3) is a neural transcription factor belonging to the POU homeobox family, characterized by binding to the octamer DNA sequence and regulating gene expression specifically in the central nervous system. POU3F2 plays an essential role in neuronal differentiation and development, acting as a transcriptional activator in cooperation with other neural-specific factors (ASCL1, SOX4, SOX11, SOX12, MYT1L). The protein has been associated with the development and proliferation of melanoma cells and is implicated in several neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders (including autism spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder, and syndromes of intellectual disability), as well as in CNS-specific gene regulation and neuronal reprogramming
