POU6F2 antisense RNA 1 (POU6F2-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA classified as an antisense transcript of the POU6F2 gene. Antisense lncRNAs are involved in regulation of gene expression through various mechanisms, including serving as competing endogenous RNAs that sequester microRNAs. POU6F2-AS1 is upregulated in lung adenocarcinoma, where it promotes malignant cell behaviors such as proliferation, colony formation, invasion, and migration. Mechanistically, POU6F2-AS1 acts as a ceRNA for miR-34c-5p, thereby enhancing the expression of the potassium channel KCNJ4, with functional consequences for cancer cell aggressiveness. Its overexpression is associated with poor clinical outcomes, positioning POU6F2-AS1 as a potential therapeutic target and prognostic biomarker in cancer, specifically lung adenocarcinoma[2][5][7][8].
Drugs or molecular interventions targeting POU6F2-AS1 would act via modulation of lncRNA expression (e.g., antisense oligonucleotides, siRNA), impacting its ceRNA function and subsequent downstream regulation of miR-34c-5p and KCNJ4[2][5]. No approved drugs have been described.
