PPEF1 antisense RNA 1 (PPEF1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed opposite to the PPEF1 gene, classified as an antisense long non-coding RNA (AS-lncRNA). Its biological impact may be context-dependent, and research into its specific mechanisms and disease relevance remains ongoing. Key context: PPEF1-AS1 is an antisense RNA and not a protein; its primary function is regulatory rather than serving as a druggable target. Unlike the protein-coding PPEF1 gene (which encodes a serine/threonine protein phosphatase and has potential roles in cancer and other diseases[1][3][5]), PPEF1-AS1 functions by gene regulation processes typical of long non-coding RNAs, but specific disease implications and therapeutic relevance have yet to be determined for this molecule.
