PPFIA2 antisense RNA 1 (PPFIA2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located on human chromosome 12 (chr12:81270669-81312422, hg38). It is transcribed antisense to the PPFIA2 protein-coding gene, which plays a role in synaptic organization in the nervous system. PPFIA2-AS1 is strongly implicated in regulating the expression of PPFIA2, consistent with the broader role of antisense RNAs in modulating gene expression through various mechanisms, including transcriptional interference and epigenetic modification. As a lncRNA, PPFIA2-AS1 does not encode a protein and is not a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, nor is it currently known to be a direct drug target or biomarker. The functional annotation of PPFIA2-AS1 remains primarily centered on its possible regulatory impact on PPFIA2 and related synaptic processes, in line with general properties of antisense RNAs.
