PPP1R12A antisense RNA 1 (PPP1R12A-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA whose genomic locus overlaps with the 5' untranslated region (UTR) and first coding exon of the protein-coding gene PPP1R12A. It is transcribed in the antisense orientation and regulates PPP1R12A protein production by increasing its translation—a novel function described as SINEUP activity, which depends on a sense-antisense interaction and the presence of a free right Alu monomer (FRAM) repeat element at the 3' end of the RNA[2]. PPP1R12A-AS1 is expressed at higher levels in blood and neural tissue, suggesting context-specific regulatory roles[2]. Currently, it is not a conventional drug target and there are no clinical interventions directly aimed at this RNA[5][2][1]. Note: - PPP1R12A-AS1 is an RNA molecule, *not* a protein target — its biological activity is mediated through regulation of the translation of its sense partner, PPP1R12A (MYPT1 protein)[2][1]. - Current research identifies PPP1R12A-AS1 primarily as a regulatory RNA rather than a direct therapeutic target[2]. - No clinically approved drugs or biomarkers directly reference this RNA to date.
