Overview

PPP1R14B antisense RNA 1 (PPP1R14B-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the PPP1R14B gene. It is not a protein-coding gene but is implicated in the regulation of gene expression at both transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. Elevated PPP1R14B-AS1 levels have been repeatedly documented in various tumor types, where its overexpression is correlated with poor patient prognosis. Functional studies show that PPP1R14B-AS1 promotes tumor cell proliferation and migration, especially in liver cancer, lung adenocarcinoma, and breast cancer. Mechanistically, it acts as a miRNA sponge for miR-134-3p, leading to upregulation of downstream targets such as LASP1, and enhances mitochondrial respiration without affecting glycolysis. Knockdown of PPP1R14B-AS1 reduces proliferation and migration of cancer cells, positioning it as a potential oncogenic biomarker and possible therapeutic target in oncology[1][2][4][6].
