PR domain-containing protein 7 (PRDM7) is a primate-specific histone methyltransferase that catalyzes the trimethylation of lysine 4 on histone H3 (H3K4me3) in vitro and in cells, defining an active chromatin state and playing a role in epigenetic regulation of gene expression. It contains a KRAB (Kruppel-associated box) domain, a SET (Su(var)3-9, Enhancer-of-zeste, Trithorax) domain, and one or more zinc fingers. PRDM7 resulted from a recent gene duplication of PRDM9 and is primarily expressed in testis and melanocytes, though its full biological roles and implications in disease are not yet fully elucidated[1][2][3][4][5][6].
