PRC1 antisense RNA 1 (PRC1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the PRC1 (Polycomb repressive complex 1) gene locus. As a natural antisense transcript (NAT), it may be involved in epigenetic regulation and modulation of gene expression of PRC1 or its neighboring genes, through mechanisms analogous to other NATs, including chromatin modification, transcriptional interference, or RNA–protein interactions. While lncRNAs and antisense RNAs are widely studied for their regulatory roles in cancer and development, there are no direct reports in the search results of PRC1-AS1 as an established therapeutic target or having a defined role in disease. PRC1-AS1 should not be confused with the protein-coding PRC1 subunit or the PRC1 complex itself, which are well-studied in chromatin regulation and cancer biology[1][4][5][6]. There is insufficient evidence for clinical relevance, validated drug interactions, or biomarker status for PRC1-AS1, but given functional analogies to other lncRNA NATs, it could potentially regulate PRC1 expression and participate in epigenetic silencing or activation processes[6].
