Target intelligence / Profile preview
PRDM8 antisense RNA 1 (PRDM8-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA located on chromosome 4. As an antisense transcript to the nearby protein-coding gene PRDM8, it does not encode a protein, but is presumed to regulate the expression of PRDM8 via mechanisms such as transcriptional interference, modulation of chromatin structure, or regulation of mRNA stability—functions that are typical for antisense lncRNAs. The specific biological and regulatory functions of PRDM8-AS1 are currently not well characterized in the literature. Antisense lncRNAs in general have been shown to influence cancer cell proliferation, migration, and other cellular processes, but there are currently no direct reports linking PRDM8-AS1 to specific diseases, therapeutic targeting, or drug interactions. PRDM8 (the sense gene) encodes a histone methyltransferase involved in epigenetic gene regulation and has documented roles in cancer, but PRDM8-AS1 is distinct as its non-coding antisense RNA partner. There is currently no evidence that PRDM8-AS1 is a therapeutic target, nor reports of interacting drugs or use as a biomarker. If you intended to query the protein-coding gene PRDM8, which is a histone methyltransferase and has cancer relevance, please clarify, as the information provided here specifically reflects PRDM8-AS1, the long non-coding RNA.
