Overview
Zonulin is a human protein that regulates the permeability of tight junctions between cells in the intestinal epithelium. It is the only known physiological modulator capable of reversibly controlling intestinal permeability. Elevated zonulin levels are associated with increased intestinal permeability and autoimmune diseases. It is considered a therapeutic target for diseases involving increased intestinal permeability.
